I’m not big on cold-calling to be frank. Usually, you’re better off either folding or raising if there’s a bet and a raise in front of you. Here’s a pretty rare opportunity that made sense to cold call.

I have 108 in middle position and call a PF raise to 13, the BB comes along. 3 players to the flop.

This is something I wrestle with quite a bit. We all do, but I’m famous for jumping to conclusions and it gets me in these situations. When I play a hand and form a plan based on my read on a given street, it’s smart to not get too married to my original plan. New cards often change the entire outlook of a hand. Here’s a hand that took place on Friday. I don’t agree with the way my opponent played it. Villain is a good player, mixes up his game, thinks about the hands he’s in. He can be a little hard-headed when he’s taken the lead in a hand though. I’m guilty of this too and often have to concentrate on putting the breaks on.

I hope I’m not the only one who remembers that Tom Petty tune.

It’s been a really frustrating month back in Atlanta. I’ve only booked a couple winning sessions and booked a net loss approaching three dimes. There have definitely been hands that I played poorly, but mostly it’s been due to my hands not holding up and very few of my draws hitting. I can’t possibly relate how often I’ve flopped a big hand only to have second best come the river. (more…)
