I’m not an Atlanta fan, but if I was I would be praying they jettison this guy asap. It won’t happen, but here’s why.

This guy has not embraced the commitment it takes to excel in the NFL. He’s repeatedly made comments that deflect blame from him and point the finger at others. And he doesn’t understand, at all, the leadership required from the most important position in the game.

Take a good look at Tom Brady. This guy is not glamorous. He doesn’t wow you with his numbers. But he is the cornerstone of his franchise.

Who do you think has better wide recievers and other surrounding talent on offense?

Without a doubt, it’s Mike Vick. And this guy still can’t get his shit together and come in for the big team win. He just doesn’t have the psychological make-up to be a consistent winner in the NFL. And, barring a coach that grills his ass and an owner that doesn’t baby him, he’ll never be anything but a flash in the pan.

Everyone gets the same hands over time. We all go back and forth between premium hands, junk and those fun little hands like 64-suited. As a white boy with a fairly straight image at the table, people generally judge me as rock-ish before they’ve had the opportunity to play with me for a while. It’s a source of frustration to me when the cards I get puts me right on their read. (more…)

Wade and I talked about this quite a bit on our Tunica trip. Typically, what you’ll see is a main game and several feeder games where players move linearly from one table to the next until they get to the main game. The unfortunate side-effect of this is you get the crazies and really bad players seated mostly on the outside tables and the main game is essentially all the survivors. (more…)

I was pleasantly surprised by the flight both to and from Memphis. Even though we were jammed up on the return flight because of the Sunday night Hartsfield congestion, it was smooth sailing all things considered.

The games in Tunica were the same. I booked only a modest win ($700 before expenses). But played very well and felt like I was the best player whenever I sat down. That doesn’t mean I was the best player, but it does mean I brought my confidence with me. A cornerstone to any successful session.

There were no incredibly interesting hands and no tough decisions. I played 2/5NL, 10/20 and 20/40. We also tried to get the 20/40 game changed to a 30/60 but one of the regulars declined. We had one player at the 20/40 game on Sunday who had been playing since Friday non-stop and no one wanted him to get up. At about 3pm on Sunday, his wife comes in, says about 5 words to him in Vietnamese and he jumps his ass out of the chair and cashes out. The whole table was laughing.

I have a couple of general topics I want to discuss that should be coming shortly. Right now things are really damn busy however. But I’ll squeeze them in.

This was originally posted as a comment to our esteemed poker pal in California Rick Stockfield’s site about losing weight. I thought it was interesting enough to go ahead and post here for those who don’t click the links to the right.

It’s tough to talk about this without coming across as “holier than thou”, but please don’t take it that way. This is just what works for me. Genetics is part of the equation, but in my opinion it’s an overrated part. I have about as sendintary a lifestyle as anyone except for those in a coma. (more…)
